Warnament Dev Update #5: Democratic Nuclear Explosions, In-Game Hints & Spanish People's Republic of Bulgaria. And A Trailer, Too
Hey everyone! Welcome to Warnament Dev Updates! Warnament is a grand strategy game, made by a solo dev Denis Makhortov. It is as deep as classic games in the genre, but only takes minutes to get into action. You can play out historic scenarios or create your own: take control of a nation on a global map and take it to glory by taking over territories and achieving military, technical, cultural, or political advantage. It is a spiritual successor to Cold Path, another game with a similar philosophy.

Oh, what is it above? Is that a trailer? You betcha! Warnament is coming into shape, and this summer promises to be particularly hot for grand strategy fans. Join our Discord server to get notified when the awesome stuff starts happening! Also, subscribe to our YouTube channel for more cool videos.
But let's get back to more current news from the past month.
Democracy Intensifies
Each political regime in Warnament is tailored for a certain style of play. For example, Monarchies are good at defending their domains, Theocratic states are famous for their ferocious infantry attacks (those zealots, you know), Communism guarantees superior production rates, Trade Republics are filthy rich and can afford advanced fleets, and those Fascist fellas show amazing performance when it's time to kill everyone around. As for Democracy, those states are typically focused on culture and science… but hey, we don't want to narrow down your array of options to just one way of development! Hence these new and unique political decisions:
As you can see, you don't have to be a pacifist when playing as a Democracy. You can send nuclear regards to your foes as well - it's just that in this case, you will try to inflict maximum damage to your enemy's army and less damage to the common folk. Because you care.
Other two unique decisions give you a Prestige and Science boost (Capital of Science and Technology wins, respectively). And, of course, other political systems have unique decisions of their own: Theocratic rulers can choose to rewrite sacred texts, Monarchs can intermarry with an ancient family, etc. Power is fun!
Knowledge is Power
However, being a ruler is also hard. We get it. That's why we're now working on adding contextual hints to the game: they explain the basic mechanics and make sure you don't get lost on your way to taking over the world. It's a pretty standard feature, of course, but it might provide vital help and make the game even easier to get into. You can thank us later. Or, maybe, right now:
A Farewell to Bugs
As we prepare to show Warnament to a wider audience of players, our bug eradication team (of 1 person) is getting armed to the teeth. One of the most powerful tools in this glorious crusade is a new feedback form that allows you to instantly report any issue and share your saved game file for us to inspect. Or you can just use it to say hi to us. Don't be a stranger!
Bulgaria? Bulgaria.
Warnament is a game in which you play with history, shaping it your way. At least, in most cases. But sometimes the course of history can change as a result of the developer being too tired and entering the wrong variable into the code. This is how the Spanish People's Republic of Bulgaria briefly made it into the game, before disappearing into oblivion… Oh, the Free State of Bottleneck, Impresa di Fiume, the Spanish People's Republic of Bulgaria! You will be remembered.
Seriously though, this is one of the things the aforementioned feedback form is for. However, it cannot protect you from facing exotic states like Georgia 2 (ironically, also formerly known as Spain).
What's Next?
Yeah, multiplayer is cool, but we also care a great deal about our more introverted players. E.g., we're now working on improving the AI for bots in the game. Those silicon devils will keep you on your toes, actively interacting with you and with each other. And when it comes to wars, they won't hesitate to refer to cunning maneuvers, attacking you from the most surprising directions.
Speaking of which, we're now also working on making combat more complicated: for one, surrounding an enemy will grant you attack bonuses, etc.
Stay tuned! As we already mentioned, much exciting news is to be expected soon!
