Warnament Dev Update #4: Revolts, Multiplayer, And Good Looking Nuclear Explosions

Hey everyone! Welcome to Warnament Dev Updates! Warnament is a grand strategy game, made by a solo dev Denis Makhortov. It is as deep as classic games in the genre, but only takes minutes to get into action. You can play out historic scenarios or create your own: take control of a nation on a global map and take it to glory by taking over territories and achieving military, technical, cultural, or political advantage. It is a spiritual successor to Cold Path, another game with a similar philosophy.

Last time we were talking about losses, political decisions, and various events that might happen to you if you decide to become a ruler of a country sometime after the Great War. Frankly speaking, a ruler's life has not become any easier since then…

Desertion & Discontent

Here's a nice illustration of what might happen if you do not tread your domain with utter attention: people start holding a grudge, big time. And then they can start revolting, which will affect the army: soldiers might go Hemingway on you, deserting from your ranks for neighborhood bars. This will result in the number of your troops suddenly decreasing.

And if that doesn't look like a problem to you, simply keep ignoring your subjects - and then one (or more) of your rebellious provinces might declare independence. Ungrateful nogoodniks they are, it'd be up to you to deal with this mess.

Technology Tree: Branchier Than Ever

Trees grow through their whole lives, remember? Well, the Tech Tree in Warnament will stop growing eventually but not just yet: it has become significantly bigger, and now you need to get your science in line with your playing strategy: what matters more - a new hospital or a shiny new bomb? Choose wisely. Or unwisely, you are the ruler, after all.

Multiplayer: It Lives!

What else do you need to know, seriously?! Just kidding, we're always happy to share as many details as we have. For now, there's one test server that we're storming together with our gang of alpha testers. It was fun! Just recently, around 1920, the world was shaken by the fact that Spain was renamed ‘Georgia-2’ (please don't ask) but was later taken over by Portugal, and the French Empire (as it was titled at that time)… Well, let's just say the frenchmen refused to give up:

It's just the start: we will significantly expand the list of possibilities for the players. From simple commands like /ban and /kick to plugins that will make creating custom game modes possible. Like roleplay servers from good old Cold Path times.

What’s Next?

One of the big things we’re expecting to happen this month is Warnament’s glorious march towards Steam: the page is almost ready, and soon you will be able to click that good-looking ‘Add to Wishlist’ button.

While we’re preparing for it, we’ll be polishing the game and the UI/UX, in particular, to make Warnament shine like the faces of you, the players, waiting for this humble game! Let us know what you think of all this, and see you again in a month!
